Large Paintings

I’ve always worked small. Maybe it’s because the plaster I usually paint becomes unstable when cast large or maybe its because I’m more in my comfort zone, as a designer. But last year I was commissioned to paint a big, one metre square, semi abstract landscape. And I loved it! Bigger brushes, bigger carving tools, bigger movements. It challenged me to think about every mark; every detail, so that I could still create the textural layers that are a feature in all my work. I was even able to bury some hidden messages in each of the paintings.
